Once you receive a Slack notification for an issue alert, you can use the "Resolve", "Ignore", or "Assign" buttons to update the Issue in Sentry. In metric alerts, select the Slack option in the dropdown that corresponds to your workspace and the select your channel: In issue alerts, select "Send a Slack notification" in the actions dropdown and then select your workspace and channel: From here, you can configure alerts to route notifications to your Slack workspace(s). Set up an alert rule by going to Alerts and clicking "Create Alert*". To view a team's associated Slack channel in sentry.io, navigate to Settings > Teams > Notifications. To enable this feature, type /sentry link team in the desired Slack channel. You can receive team alert notifications from our Slack integration. This can be done by typing /sentry link in Slack. In order to receive personal notifications from our Slack integration, your Slack identity must be linked with your Sentry account. Manage your personal notification settings by navigating to User Settings > Notifications. You can receive personal workflow, deploy, and issue alert notifications from our Slack integration. Use Slack for notifications and alerts regarding issues, environments, deployment, etc. In the next section, we'll walk you through configuring your notification settings. One quick method: use to invite the Sentry bot the Slack channel. To enable Slack notification for private channels, add the Slack app to the channel. Your Slack integration is now available to all projects in your Sentry organization. Your integration details page will refresh and show the Slack workspace you just added. Repeat this process if you are connecting to multiple workspaces. Toggle to the Slack workspace to which you want to connect using the dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the authentication window. In sentry.io, navigate to Settings > Integrations > Slack. Now, in the future, I would hope Slack could provide that same ease within a native app, but for now it’s a weird but positive step forward.Sentry owner, manager, or admin permissions are required to install this integration. However, because the web app populates the login page with all your active workspaces, it actually reduces effort-it’s better than the native desktop login approach. You’d think this would be a worse experience because of the round trip.

You can also enter the Slack subdomain in the web app’s login page, and then proceed through a normal password (and second-factor) login entry or use a magic link. From there, you can either click on any workspace listed that you’re already logged into, saving time and effort, and the web app requests opening the native desktop app, which then adds the workspace with no further effort. Click the + in the Workspaces sidebar, and the Slack desktop app opens a browser window that’s related to all workspaces for which you use the same email address. (The magic link is a URL that, when clicked, opens the web app, which in turn triggers the Slack native desktop app and adds the team.)Īs of March 11, 2019, however, the native desktop apps no longer allow a direct login. Previously, you could click the big + at the bottom of the native desktop app’s Workspaces sidebar, and you’d be prompted within the desktop app to enter a workspace subdomain name, and proceed through a log in or generate a magic link sent via email. You can no longer log into a workspace from a native desktop app. However, Slack just removed a feature from the native desktop apps, that you would think makes the desktop app worse-but, in fact, makes it better. The native apps have a few distinct advantages I mention in the book over using the web app. In macOS and Windows, Slack offers both native desktop apps and a robust web app that works across major browsers.
